The Super Eagles team has threatened to boycott their game against Libya after being stranded at the Libyan Airport for over 12 hours. The three-time African champions are scheduled to take on the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday, October 15, in the return encounter of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to reports, the team’s chartered flight was diverted to a different airport just as it was approaching Benghazi Airport on Sunday night. The Libyan federation failed to send any delegation to meet the team or arrange for a shuttle to convey the players to their hotel.

Reacting to the unfortunate development, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, in a series of tweets, disclosed that the team has decided not to play the game, urging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take the necessary action.

“At this point we have called for our Nigerian Government to intervene and rescue us. As the captain, together with the team, we have decided that we will NOT play this game. CAF should look at the report and what is happening here. Even if they decide to allow,” the Al Kholood defender wrote on X.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play Libya on Tuesday, October 15, in the return encounter of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The three-time African champions defeated the Mediterranean Knights 1-0 in the first leg on Friday, October 11, courtesy of Dele-Bashiru’s strike in the 87th minute.
