Sulley Muntari-Kobbie Mainoo comparison sparks debate on social media

Football fans on social media have engaged in a heated debate over the similarity in quality between Ghana legend Sulley Muntari and Manchester United prodigy Kobbie Mainoo.

The debate was triggered after a user with the handle @SalibaEra2 made a tweet with Muntari’s picture and the caption ‘He walked so Kobbie Mainoo could run.’

Many disagreed with his tweet, stating that the two are completely different players and cannot be compared.

Others felt nostalgic about the post as they reminisced on Muntari’s heydays, making references to his days at Portsmouth, Inter Milan, and AC Milan while highlighting his achievements.

Meanwhile, some users could not identify Muntari and thus quizzed about who he is, which resulted in responses emphasizing the former Black Stars midfielder’s achievements.

Sulley Ali Muntari officially retired from football in 2022 after a one-season spell with Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak to close off his career.

He is one of the most decorated Ghanaian footballers ever with 10 laurels, and the only Ghanaian to win a treble.
