Stop drowning people in rivers in the name of BAPTISM-Pastors warned

Children’s Ministry Director for the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Fred Tiakor has recommended the use of baptistery for water baptism to all church leaders and pastors, as a precaution against drowning people in rivers during water baptism, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

Apostle Fred’s recommendation follows the sad incident that happened, where a twenty-year-old man lost his life while being baptized in the Weija River in Accra some few weeks ago

The victim, Mr Yaw Kyeremeh, was reportedly the second to be baptized after the first who was led through the same process by the baptizer was successful, but he got drowned and died in the process.

According to Apostle Fred Tiakor, the church of Pentecost in which he is a member, do not only baptize in rivers, they baptize in baptisteries. Baptistery is recommended for church builders, so they prepare bastistery at the church place with the baptizer there, and only in rare cases that you will find people going to beaches and rivers for baptism these days.

“We do not only baptize in rivers. Baptistery is recommended for church builders, so that, we prepare a baptistery at the church place, and with the minister (pastor) baptism just there. It is these days,  in rare cases you will find people going to beaches and the rivers to baptize. We do that now in the baptistery that we built at the church” he said.

Apostle Fred Tiakor made the recommendation in an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com’s Divine Mensah Vadze at the Church of Pentecost, Adenta District-Central Zone’s Christmas convention held at Adenta Village, Roman Catholic Park on Sunday, December 23, 2018.

He also advised ministers who may not have the font, and have to go to the river sides to make sure that, they do not go to deep places, rather, baptize the people at shallow places to avoid recording any unfortunate incidents.

“In case you don’t have the baptistery, you are going to river side, the leaders and pastors must make sure that, they don’t go to deep waters, they should be at shallow place, so that there wouldn’t be any drowning or whatsoever”

The Children’s Ministry Director, further advised that if pastors know that where they are doing the baptism has a high speed of water flow, they have to take precaution and one of them is to provide lifejackets for the people, but he would not recommend in any case for deep waters to be used.
