Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Mr. Irbard Ibrahim is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s intervention to stop former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei from accepting the UN post in Afghanistan.
According to him, he has understudied the Taliban for so many years as a researcher adding that the militant group usually announces the commencement of its operations around this time when the mountains dry up and militants are able to move freely through the rugged terrains between Afghanistan and Pakistan
He adds “there is usually an exponential increase in the number of attacks and I wish Ghana would leave one of its assets and potential future Electoral Commissioner out of this mess”
Mr. Irbard revealed that if Madam Charlotte Osei and her family had consulted him on this UN appointment, he would have courteously asked her to politely decline it.
“The President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo can intervene if possible”, he said in a release copied to MyNewsGh.com.
The United Nations has appointed Charlotte Osei as an International Elections Commissioner to Afghanistan as it prepares to hold crucial presidential polls in September.
The appointment of the former EC Chair was confirmed by a Presidential Decree issued by the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani.
Mrs Osei is expected to join a team of other UN-appointed election experts from around the world to provide much needed technical support, capacity building and electoral best practice advice to the Election Complaints Commission and the Independent Electoral Commission charged with delivering a peaceful democratic process and credible elections.
