Stonebwoy’s PRO details why his AFCON performance did not take place

Fans of Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy were disappointed when his scheduled performance at the AFCON Fan Zone in Tangier, Morocco, on January 8, 2026, did not take place. The singer’s team has explained that unforeseen technical issues at the venue prevented the show from going ahead.

The performance was part of the entertainment lineup for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), intended to engage football fans and music enthusiasts during one of the continent’s largest sporting events. Stonebwoy, a Grammy-nominated artist, had been expected to deliver one of his signature high-energy performances at Villa Harris Park, a venue specially set up for the festivities.

According to Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Public Relations Officer for Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group, the artist had arrived in Morocco ready to perform and had already completed a full sound check. However, organisers later informed the team that staging and equipment problems made it impossible for the performance to go on as scheduled.

“Stonebwoy was fully prepared and excited to perform,” Boateng explained. “But while waiting for the official go-ahead, we were told there were unresolved issues with the stage setup and technical equipment.”

As the scheduled time passed, it became clear that the technical challenges could not be resolved promptly, prompting organisers to postpone the performance rather than cancel it entirely. The decision was made to ensure the safety of the artist, crew, and fans, as well as to maintain the quality of the show.

The postponement sparked disappointment among fans in Morocco and across the world who had anticipated witnessing one of Ghana’s leading music stars perform live during the tournament. Stonebwoy, widely recognized for his energetic stage presence and hit songs, has consistently participated in AFCON-related music projects and events, making his absence from the live stage a notable gap in the festival’s entertainment schedule.

Boateng confirmed that discussions between Stonebwoy’s management and event organisers are ongoing to reschedule the performance, potentially at a later date and possibly at a different venue. No official date has yet been announced, but both parties are committed to ensuring that fans will have the opportunity to see the artist perform.

In the meantime, Stonebwoy remains involved in other AFCON-related engagements, supporting the tournament through media appearances and promotional activities. His team has assured fans that updates regarding the rescheduled performance will be communicated promptly once technical issues have been resolved.

Despite the setback, the incident highlights the challenges of coordinating large-scale events, where technical readiness is critical to ensuring smooth and safe performances. Fans remain hopeful that Stonebwoy will take the stage soon, adding music and excitement to the ongoing AFCON celebrations.
