Stanchart to sack over 600 staff in June

Over 600 workers of Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana are set to lose their jobs in June as the bank closes three branches.

The branches to be closed down are located at Tudu, Westlands and Taifa in Accra.

According to sources, the staff have now been informed of the decision after it was kept from them for a long while.

The source further revealed that the branches are being closed because management has introduced a new technology that is capable of doing their jobs in the respective branches.

Conversations are underway to duly compensate the affected staff.

The development comes as the industry is yet to emerge from the crisis that saw the collapse of some banks culminating into the Consolidated Bank Of Ghana last year.
The Bank of Ghana has, however, said savings is rising as confidence in the sector took a massive hit after in the wake of the crisis.
