Officers at the Legon Police Station in Accra had a tough time controlling a crowd that showed up at the station following the conclusion of Monday’s Special Voting exercise.

A horde of National Democratic Congress supporters, led by the Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, escorted the police to the station where the ballot boxes were sent for safekeeping after the polls closed.

Walking side by side with the electoral official holding the ballot box, John Dumelo and a crowd of NDC supporters, accompanied by police officers, arrived at the station where the ballot boxes are to be kept until December 7, 2024.

As part of the Electoral Commission’s guidelines, ballots for the Special Voting exercise are to be kept at various police armories until after the close of polls in the general election, before the ballot boxes will be opened and the votes counted.

The Special Voting exercise allowed eligible voters involved in election-related duties, including election officials, security personnel, and media practitioners, to cast their ballots early.

A total of 131,478 voters, representing 0.007 percent of the total registered voter population of 18,741,159, were expected to participate in the Special Voting exercise.

The exercise began at 0700 hours and ended at 1700 hours.

The exercise was initially scheduled to take place across 328 centers nationwide but was rescheduled for eligible voters in the Western and Eastern regions following the recall of ballots for the two regions.
