Six persons arrested and fined for open defecation in STMA

The Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) (STMA) has arrested and fined six individuals from Sekondi, Essipon, Nkotompo and Kojokrom for easing themselves in unapproved areas.

The six social deviants including; two women who were arrested by the Assembly’s environmental sanitation taskforce are; Helena Abban, Zubeiru Seidu, Ebo kobina , Joe Kojo Essuman, Addai Owusu, and Kweku Badu.

Mr John Laste, STMA PRO told the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi that the assembly’s environmental sanitation taskforce arrested the deviants and charged with spot fines of GHC200 each and failure to pay would result in court prosecution.

He said the issue of open defecation was still a major challenge in the fight to ensure healthy and clean environment, particularly along the beaches of the STMA.

The PRO said the assembly, whilst educating the citizenry against the practice, had put in place plans to construct household places of conveniences at communities found along the beaches to stem the practice permanently.
