Six arrested for open defecation

The Environmental Sanitation Taskforce of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has arrested six persons for defecating in the open.

The culprits were arrested at Effia No 9 and Sekondi Zongo on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

They are Nii Addo, Salasi Denu, Cleland Holison, Mustapha Abdulsalam, Evans Gettia and Edward Botwi

They were fined GH¢200 each after which they were cautioned to desist from the practice

Section 14 of the Assembly’s bye-law on solid waste management says “No person shall defecate or urinate in any public or open place other than approved toilet facilities”.

Last Thursday’s arrest brings the total number of persons arrested in the year to 90 within the metropolis.

Communities where previous arrests have been made include Mpintsin, Bakado, Essipong, Kansaworodo, Ntankoful Kwesimintsim and Amanful

Abdul Hudu, Head of Environmental Health and Management Unit of the Assembly says the assembly would continue this exercise and bring culprits to book till the practice is fully eradicated within the metropolis
