The Conference also indicated that Ghanaians were in pressing need of proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, stressing, “We, therefore forward this serious issue of national interest to Parliament for study and necessary action.”

It mentioned that it had become necessary for Ghanaians and Muslims in particular to preserve and transmit our rich religious and cultural heritage for generations to come.

On illegal mining, the Conference noted that illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’ had been ruining the country for several decades now.

It said the menace was having a devastating impact on Ghana’s environment, economy and society.

“The indiscriminate use of mercury and other harmful chemicals in the mining process has contaminated our water bodies, destroyed arable lands and caused widespread deforestation. A great deal of importance should be attached to a holistic review of mining licenses to regulate the mining industry.

Furthermore, the Conference called for the establishment of a task force, the imposition of stricter regulations and the prosecution of offenders to prevent further destruction of farmlands and water bodies.

On the recent incident at the AngloGold mine at Obuasi which resulted in the death of some youth, the Conference urged the youth to remain calm for peace and peaceful co-existence.

In the wake of recent, “Tension is understandably very high, but violence and acts of retribution will only aggravate the situation and lead to further loss of lives and injuries. Instead of resorting to actions that can easily escalate into full-blown conflicts, the youth can play a constructive role by supporting investigations that allow the authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident,” the communique stated.
