She is my former girlfriend; I didn’t touch her – Bukom Banku reacts to assault video

Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has responded to a viral video that appears to show him physically assaulting a woman.

The video, which surfaced on November 23, 2024, sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning his actions.

In a 29-second video shared on the X platform by EDHUB, Bukom Banku was captured dressed in a kaftan, hitting the woman, who is wearing a pink outfit.

However, Bukom Banku claims that the video is an attempt to tarnish his image.

According to him, the woman in the video is his former girlfriend, who has been insulting him and some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) out of jealousy.

He denied physically assaulting the woman, stating that the person who posted the video is trying to damage his reputation.

“Ghanaians, have you seen that post about me? The person who posted it thinks he wants to tarnish my image, but it didn’t work. Ghanaians have witnessed that I didn’t throw my hands. I respect myself in this country, and people love me, so I didn’t throw my hands. Every time members of the NDC pass by, she insults them. Every day, she insults me. Do you know why? She’s my former girlfriend,” he narrated.

Explaining the events that led to the altercation with his former girlfriend, Bukom Banku said the woman, who sells kenkey and fish in his neighbourhood, had been consistently insulting him, and in seeking answers, he (Bukom Banku) approached her at her workplace to inquire about her behaviour.

However, the woman allegedly poured pepper on his face, prompting him to grab her dress.

In response, the woman, her siblings, and her husband physically attacked him.

“Because I left her, she’s jealous, and every day, she insults me whenever she sees me passing. She sells kenkey and fish, so I went there to ask her why she had been insulting me, and she poured pepper on my face.

So, I held her clothes, and she started beating me. Her siblings also came from behind and started beating me, and then her husband gave me a blow to the face. So, Ghanaians, have you seen now that Bukom Banku didn’t throw any punches? I controlled my temper,” Bukom Banku explained in Ga.

Despite the altercation, the retired boxer maintains that he never physically assaulted his former girlfriend. He attributes the incident to jealousy, claiming that others are envious of his success.

“Ghanaians were told that I had been giving bottles to my children to stab others, and I was remanded for eight days. They also took GH¢120 million and plasma from me. All of these are lies. I never did that, and they did it out of jealousy.”
