See the female bodyguard of Yagbonwura in the spotlight

In a powerful display of women’s empowerment, Special Aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, shared a remarkable story of a female bodyguard serving the Yagbonwura, the revered leader of the Gonja traditional area.

The Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, January 9, 2025, following his inauguration.

Taking to social media on January 11, 2025, Mogtari described her encounter with the Yagbonwura’s security detail as “a beautiful and sobering reminder that women indeed can!”

The female bodyguard, who remains unnamed, has garnered widespread admiration as a symbol of strength and resilience in a role traditionally dominated by men.

Her position also reflects the evolving landscape of gender roles within Ghanaian society and the growing recognition of women’s contributions to leadership and security.

Additionally, social media users praised the Yagbonwura and his council for embracing progressive ideas by appointing a woman to such a significant and visible position.
