SC: Woyome thrown out, fined GHS6000

The Supreme Court has, in a unanimous decision, refused the judicial review application filed by embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome in the ongoing case related to the GHS51.2 million judgment debt paid to him illegally by the state.

Mr Woyome had prayed the apex court to quash a judgment by Justice A. A. Benin to allow the case to be heard at the high court.

However, the three-member panel of judges presided over by Justice Julius Ansah refused the request and awarded a cost of GHS6,000 against the businessman.

This was after a deputy attorney general, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame, prayed the court to award a cost of GHS10,000 against Mr Woyome to serve as a deterrent to lawyers who present feeble applications to the court.

The state is seeking to retrieve the GHS52.1 million from Mr Woyome.

So far, he has paid about GHS4 million of that amount.
