The Savannah Regional Minister, Honourable Salifu Adam Braimah has paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and people of Sonyor in the Bole district of the Savannah region.

Accompanying the Savannah Regional Minister included the DCE for Bole- Bamboi district Honorable Veronica Alele   Herming,DCE for Sawla- Tuna-Kalba district  Mr Mohammed Lawal,the regional budget officer and the regional coordinating director Mr Mohammed Adam Baba.

Speaking at the Sonyonwura’s palace in a mini durbar attended by chiefs,religious leaders and people of Sonyon, the regional minister said he was very happy there is peace in the Sonyo traditional area and praised the 5 member committee of chiefs that was setup by the Yagbonwura to go into settling the chieftaincy issues in Sonyo and other areas in the gonja kingdom for doing a very wonderful job to ensure peace in that area.

He said the role of the Sonyonwura in Gonjaland is very great not only to the community but the entire Gonja kingdom since it is he the Sonyonwura who takes charge of the kingdom until a substantive king is enskinned after the demise of the overlord of the Gonjaland traditional area,the Yagbonwura.

Honorable Salifu Braimah told the chiefs and people of Sonyon that he is visiting them because of the peaceful atmosphere they are enjoying today since he could not have come if there was no peace in that area.

Sonyonwura on his part praised the minister and his entourage for visiting his kingdom. He said Hon. Salifu Braimah is the second regional minister to visit Sonyon and therefore could not hide his joy seeing them in his community.

Chief Adamu Kanyiti used the opportunity to put before the Honorable Minister challenges facing his traditional area.

He appealed to the minister to as a matter of urgency help in the construction of the Bole-Sonyo road since that is a major source of worry to his people.

He also appealed to the minister to help look into the telecommunication network of the area since it is difficult making mobile phone calls in the Sonyo area.

Sonyonwura further talked about how the school in Sonyo lacks furniture and teachers also facing accommodation problems including the lack of portable drinking water which is a major problem in his traditional area and appealed to the minister to help his community attend to what he has put before him.

Honourable Salifu assured Sonyonwura about the government’s commitment toward bring development to the doorsteps of the people of which the Sonyon traditional area will not be left out. He therefore assured him of attending to all that was put before him since he can also testify after travelling on the road from Bole to Sonyon.

The minister’s team also visited traditional elders of Sonyo including the Kupo Choribee, Kasanwura Kanalubi and the Palace of the Kukunipewura  Saaka Biawurbi.

Chief Saaka Biawurbi thanked the minister for visiting him and said the decision taken by the committee setup by the Yagbonwura binds everybody including him and was grateful for the peace that the people of Sonyon are enjoying today as a result of the work of the committee.

The problems of the community raised by Sonyonwura are what almost all the chiefs are putting before the minister and his team.

The entourage also visited a Planting for Food and Jobs cashew nursery farm in the community. The minister was very happy and encouraged the youth to take advantage of the program to go into farming.

Speaking to thepressrdaio.com Hon. Veronica Alele Herming said she was the happiest woman after peace finally returned to her place of birth. She said the conflict situation always retards development.
