Rwanda vs Nigeria: ‘Ref must be a Ghanaian’ — Fans conclude after Ademola Lookman’s disallowed goal

Following Nigeria’s disappointing goalless draw against Rwanda, a section of football-loving fans in Nigeria have taken to social media to lash out at the referee for disallowing Ademola Lookman’s goal.

The Ballon d’Or nominee appeared to have given the Super Eagles the lead in the 22nd minute after heading the ball into the back of the net, but the referee whistled for an infringement.

It remains unclear whether the referee awarded an offside or a foul against Semi Ajayi, who flicked on Ola Aina’s long throw-in for Lookman to finish.

Displeased with the referee’s call, a section of the Super Eagles fans has taken to social media to lambast the referee.

Check out some reactions from fans below:

_@wizzeblog: The ref must be a Ghanaian 😩😂

_@Pweshiouz13: This should have been a clean goal

_@efo_phil: Was a foul committed there ?

_@ebiliekwe: Offside in throw-in?

_@wizleey: Wetin ref say be the problem?

_@falaqamin: Why was it cancelled?

_@ulot_szn:Is it off side or foul? That referee is on Refnol

_@EmekaMaxsuc: The goal should have been awarded and I still can’t believe it was disallowed

_@okuns_emmy247: Wait… I thought throwing wasn’t offside or I don’t know the rules again. 🤧

Despite the draw, Nigeria remains on top of the group with 4 points.

The three-time African champions will return to action in the AFCON qualifiers against Libya in October.
