Roadblocks, Clash with Police: Watch chaos at EOCO ahead of Wontumi’s release

The release of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, turned dramatic as a series of chaotic events preceded his released by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), on the night of Monday, June 2, 2025.

In solidarity with Chairman Wontumi, NPP loyalists, along with party executives from the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions, gathered at EOCO’s forecourt to demand his release.

GhanaWeb’s team at the EOCO headquarters captured the tension that escalated between the protesters and the police.

Some party members clad in red and black attire attempted to breach police barricades, but the security personnel held their ground.

Upon spotting two white pickup trucks, protesters feared that Chairman Wontumi was about to be forcibly moved to another security agency.

This led to a confrontation with the police, leading to chaos and confusion at the scene.
