RME Integrated Not Removed From Basic School Syllabus

Religious and Moral Education (RME) has been integrated with the subject “Our World and Our People” for Kindergarten and Primary level contrary to report that it has been removed from the Basic School curriculum .

It was reported that the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NACCA) has proposal for the removal of Religious and Moral Education (RME) from the Basic School curriculum.

Many people including Educationists, Catholic Bishops Conference and other Religious bodies have kicked against the proposal since RME is a means that the Church has used over the years for character formation and transformation in schools and urged Government not to cancel it.

But in a draft Proposed Subjects/Learning Areas for Kindergarten and Primary Level by the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NACCA) sighted by Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) and copied to thepressradio.com, RME among other subjects such as Citizenship Education have been integrated with “Our World and Our People”.

Below is the NaCCA 2018 Curriculum draft proposal:

 

Proposed Learning Areas/Themes for KG1- KG2 are:

 

  • Numeracy
  • Language and Literacy
  • Creative Arts
  • Our World and Our People (Themes based on our Environment, History, RME, Science, Citizenship)
  • Physical Education

 

Proposed Upper Primary School Subjects/Learning Areas for B1 – B3

  • Numeracy
  • Language and Literacy
  • Creative Arts
  • History
  • Science (Agric)
  • Our World and Our People (Geography, RME, Citizenship Education, Computing)
