Riots: 15 Agogo State Col. students arrested
Fifteen students of Agogo State College in the Ashante-Akim North district of the Ashanti Region have been arrested by the police for rioting.
The students, on Sunday, 30 September staged a demonstration over unstable power supply and acute water shortage at the school.
The District Chief Executive of the area, Francis Oti-Boateng said on Monday, 1 October 2018 that the District Security Council will hold a stakeholder meeting on the issue.
“I met them this morning to admit to them that even if they have any grievances, they cannot take the law into your own hands. There’re procedures; even if you have any grievances you have to pass through, so, I wonder why they took the laws into their own hands and were disturbing but I can assure you that now everything is under control, we’re meeting, we’re having a committee meeting to decide the way forward.”
Concerning the arrested students, Mr Oti-Boateng told Accra-based Citi FM that: “We’ll just release them because after we have taken a decision on the way forward, we’ll know whether they’ll have to go back to school or they’ll be going home.”
