Revolution killing: I’m ready for a lie detector test – Rawlings
Former President Jerry John Rawlings is demanding for a polygraph test otherwise known as a lie detector (test) before he can answer to all questions about his 19-year rule as head of state cum president [Military and Civilian].
He also asking journalists and other professionals who report on him must subject themselves to same test, reiterating his timeless declaration that his integrity is unsullied.
Mr Rawlings who was accused by Dr Henry Lartey, former flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) in 2016 of receiving $5million from Nigeria’s Sani Abacha it would be recalled, asked for a polygraph to clear his name.
According to him, he only received $2million and not $5million and is ready to face off with Dr. Lartey in all fronts including the use of a lie detector or go the traditional way.
This was even after his proposition to African courts to use same in prosecuting African leaders and citizens who loot the state and deposit them in foreign banks.
“Attaching lie detector tests to courthouses could go a long way in restoring the culture of truthfulness, justice and social stability. Time and money would be saved adjudicating on the issues.
“If only lie detector machines could be attached to the lying mouths of some of these so-called professional journalists and commentators, our society would stay focused and the lift-off in the society will also become inevitable. Any loss of lift will not undermine the stability of our society”, he advised.
The former military leader when he appeared before the National Reconciliation Commission in 2003 said he was prepared to go through any “chemical interrogation test” on the account of the several allegations levelled against him.
It was therefore not surprising when in the wake of fresh allegations emerging about the murder of the three High Court Judges and a Military Officer he demanded same.
Addressing students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at this year’s edition of ‘Tek Talk’, he accused some people of resurrecting a matter that has been dealt with just to soil is hard-won reputation.
To this end, threw a challenge to the people behind the image-tarnishing to come for a ‘one on one’ polygraph test and see who stands out.
