REVEALED: Plans to arrest ladies without bra and pants in Nigeria?

Media reports had it that the new security outfit launched by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Agunechemba, vowed to arrest indecently dressed women and girls who walk around without bras and pants.

The reports have since been described by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, as “false but also mischievous and calculated to mislead the public and paint the state government in bad light.”

He expressed the government’s commitment to protecting the fundamental human rights and dignity of all citizens.

He said, “Although the government encourages decent dressing for all, it does not interfere with citizens’ personal choices of clothing or undergarments, as such matters are private and protected by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Aburime urged the public to disregard the news, just as he urged the peddlers to desist from such acts of misinformation that could create unnecessary panic and tension in society.

When MyNigeria contacted RULAAC Executive Director, Ikechuwku Nwanguma, he revealed that some forces might actually be trying to enforce such action in Anambra.

He added, “All we can say is that if there are people doing such in the name of government, then government should arrest them.”
