Regional Minister details how Dr. Bawumia’s speech was interrupted because of Circle ECOMOG fire

The Regional Minister for Greater Accra, Daniel Titus-Glover, has recounted how the fire outbreak at Circle ECOMOG on June 5, 2024, interrupted Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Youth Connect event in the Greater Accra Region due to a power cut.

The Vice President, while delivering his campaign speech to the teeming youth gathered at the GNAT Hall on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, experienced an interruption due to a cut in the power supply.

During his visit to Circle ECOMOG, Titus-Glover cautioned the residents against residing in the area due to the risk posed by the National GRID pylons located there.

“I don’t want any of you to reside here again. The fire burnt two cables. We were with the Vice President when the lights went off, and many thought it was dumsor. I don’t want you all to lose your lives. I am pleading, you have lived here for a long time, but where it is going to, we can’t allow you all. This is not a suitable place for you to live. Leave this place.”

He added, “I will deploy soldiers and police personnel to ensure that nobody resides here because we have to protect these national assets and lives.”

Scores of wooden structures at Circle ECOMOG in the Greater Accra region were completely destroyed by the fire, which broke out around 4 PM.

The blaze caused widespread destruction, leaving many residents scrambling for safety and salvageable belongings.
