Raped blind woman gives birth; names baby after Adom FM’s Captain Smart

Showing appreciation to the people who come to your aid in times of need is the hallmark of a person with a heart of gratitude.

This is the position of the visually impaired woman raped and impregnated in her home last year.

The 44-year-old Laila [pseudo name] shared her sad story on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme in September 2018 about how an unknown person broke into her kiosk and raped her. She later found out she had been infected with HIV.

Though vulnerable and struggling to survive, the life of the middle-aged woman, whom at the age of 11 went blind after getting an eye infection known in local parlance as ‘apolo’, went from bad to worst.

With the help of Adom FM and its cherished listeners, Laila has given birth to a bouncy baby boy called Kwame.

In appreciation, she has named the boy after Dwaso Nsem host, Captain Smart after leading the campaign to raise funds for her upkeep.

“I considered taking my life because all hope was lost but when Adom FM came in, everything changed for the better,” she said in Twi.

Aside the mother of two, Captain and his producers ensured Laila’s daughter got admission into a Nursing Training School to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse.

Laila, who looked very healthy and happy, also thanked God and Adom FM for giving true meaning to her stay on earth.
