To mark Green Ghana Day on June 7, 2024, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), in partnership with United Way Ghana, donated thousands of agricultural inputs to La Yahoushua Junior High School. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change through tree planting.

The donated items included axes, cutlasses, hoes, gloves, watering cans, manure, and 120 seedlings. The seedlings comprised a variety of plants such as coconut, orange, and oil palm. The event aimed to educate students on the importance of tree planting and environmental care.

During the event, Mrs. Clara Amarteifio-Taylor, Head of Corporate Responsibilities for PwC Ghana, emphasized the goal of raising awareness about their Environmental Sustainability Project. This project aims to instill a habit of tree planting among students and teach them how to nurture seedlings. Mrs. Amarteifio-Taylor highlighted the importance of understanding the impact and benefits of tree planting both in schools and homes.

As part of the project, PwC and United Way Ghana plan to form student groups dedicated to tree planting and environmental education. They demonstrated the practical aspects of tree planting and explained the necessity of regular watering to ensure plant growth, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

The two organizations also planted several seedlings at the school, supporting the government’s goal to plant 10,000 seedlings for a greener future. They committed to visiting the school periodically to monitor the progress of both the students and the plants.

Mrs. Dorcas Asiamah, Greater Accra Regional Forestry Officer, underscored the significance of Green Ghana Day and the need for teachers to supervise and monitor the planted seedlings. She educated the students on the vital role trees play in daily life and their environmental impact.

The teachers and school authorities expressed their gratitude to PwC and United Way Ghana for their continuous support and for selecting their school for this important project. They assured the donors that the items would be used for their intended purposes and that the seedlings would be well cared for.

This donation not only supports the Green Ghana initiative but also fosters a sense of environmental stewardship among the younger generation, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future.
