Punish ASP Jalil for his alleged assault of DSP Nanka Bruce at Jubilee House – Dr Bona to Mahama

Security analyst Dr. Adam Bona has appealed to the John Mahama administration to revisit and punish the Police Officer who assaulted another officer at the Jubilee House in January 2017 under the Akufo-Addo Presidency.

The then Director in charge of VVIP at the Flagstaff house, DSP Nanka Bruce, was assaulted by ASP Jalil Bawa with a surveillance video of the incident going viral on social media.

The matter was raised in Parliament by the then Kumbungu lawmaker Ras Mubarak, however, the investigation went under the radar as the Attorney General’s department at the time did not seem keen on prosecuting the suspect.

“Mr Speaker, I’ m aware of a report made by one DSP Nanka Bruce, Director in charge of the VVIP at the Flagstaff House on 9th January 2017, in which he reported an assault on him by an ex-policeman named Jalil [Bawa] and one Abu. The matter is currently under investigation by the Police CID and efforts are being made to get the suspects arrested,” the Kumbungu lawmaker said in Parliament.

Commenting on the matter on Metro TV Monday January 6th 2024, Mr Bona said failure of the state to punish ASP Jalil has emboldened him to commit other infractions with impunity.

“I expect the Mahama government to deal with the hoodlums who took over and assaulted other people at the jubilee house. Someone like ASP Jalil accosted a Police officer called DSP Nanka Bruce at the jubilee house and beat him up like an animal, went to his home also and beat him up and this happened under the purported human rights activist president and no one punished this ASP and he is still in uniform”.

ASP Jalil Bawa at the time of the incident had been dismissed from the Ghana Police Service. He joined and became a leading member of the then private security of the NPP, popular called Invisible Forces.

He was reinstated by the Akufo Addo government and given special recommendation to go to the police academy to become an officer.
