Public Outrage Erupts After Video Shows Men Giving Lit Cigarette to Baby

A viral video showing a group of adult men handing a lit cigarette to a baby has triggered widespread condemnation across Ghana. The disturbing footage, which has been shared across social media platforms, shows the child being encouraged to inhale the smoke while the men laugh in the background.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has described the act as a serious violation of the child’s rights and well-being. The ministry called the behavior “reckless, abusive, and unacceptable,” stressing that exposing a child to harmful substances constitutes child endangerment under Ghanaian law.
The ministry has referred the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and is urging a swift arrest and prosecution of the individuals involved. According to the ministry, the act breaches the Children’s Act of 1998 and stands against Ghana’s policies on child protection and early childhood development.
Authorities are encouraging the public to be vigilant and report any form of child abuse, emphasizing that safeguarding children is a collective responsibility.
