Prime suspect in policewoman’s murder still in coma
The prime suspect in the murder of Lance Corporal Agartha Nana Nabin of the Northern Regional Police Command is still in a coma at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, MyNewsGh.com has gathered.
Yakubu Kanbon-Naa who sustained severe gunshot wound in his arm and stomach in a gunfire exchanges with the police together with Nash Isaahaku, Zulika Abduallah, Issahaku and Mahama Nashiru face conspiracy, murder, possession of firearms and possession of military accoutrements and were taken into police custody to reappear on the 22nd August 2018 for the commencement of the case.
Their pleas were not taken on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, by Tamale District Court presided over by Amadu Seidu.
According to MyNewsGh.com reporters at the court, there was heavy security presence with the trial judge rejecting a request by Counsel for the accused persons, Sylvester Essang for his clients to be granted bail.
Background
The policewoman in her mid-30s was last week shot to death by military dressed armed robbers at a police checkpoint on the Kumbungu road.
According to the account of the police, the incident occurred at about 10:45 pm on the said day near Star Oil Filing Station when ash coloured saloon car was signalled to stop on approaching the checkpoint.
Four occupants, all armed men dressed in military camouflage’, wearing face masks and dessert boots suddenly got down and shot at the deceased killing her instantly.
The other policewoman in her attempt to take cover stumbled and fell and her weapon together with that of the deceased were taken by the robbers.
The third officer who had then taken cover fired at the robbers but the robbers managed to escape with the two weapons.
All four suspects including one on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have since been arrested in connection with the heinous crime.
