President Mahama reassigns Edward Bawa from GNPC to GOIL as Group CEO

According to him, the move forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader energy sector strategy.

He made the announcement on his personal Facebook page on February 13, 2025, and wrote, “I have been reassigned to GOIL as Group CEO, effective immediately, as part of the president’s broader energy sector strategy.”

On January 17, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

His appointment took effect on January 17, 2025, and was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.

The letter stated, “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L. 64), has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation pending receipt of the required advice of the Honourable Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”
