President Mahama appoints Seth Terkper as Presidential Advisor on the economy

Former Minister of Finance Seth Terkper has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as his Presidential Advisor on the economy.

This was contained in the most recent list released by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Ofosu Kwakye and dated January 21, 2025.

In this role, Seth Terkper will provide strategic guidance on critical economic issues, including fiscal policy, debt management, and strategies to foster economic recovery efforts.

The appointment comes at a time when Ghana is grappling with significant economic challenges, such as rising inflation, escalating public debt, and a depreciating currency.

Ghana is currently under its 17th IMF bailout program for a three-year period under an Extended Credit Facility program.

In his new capacity, Seth Terkper will work closely with Minister of Finance-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to implement a range of economic policies under the new Mahama-led administration.

Terkper, who served as Ghana’s Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2017, brings extensive experience to his advisory role.

During his tenure, he spearheaded crucial fiscal reforms aimed at enhancing public financial management and stabilizing the national economy.

His track record and deep understanding of economic policy positions him at the forefront of efforts to address these issues and steer the nation toward sustainable growth.
