Nsawam police pick up 12 Nigerians over cybercrime

The Nsawam Police Command in the Eastern Region has detained 12 suspects, all believed to be Nigerians for allegedly engaging in cybercrime activities.

They were identified as Courage Mathew, 24; Felix Omoregbe, 28; Paul Mark, 24; Affamey Godstime, 23; Sunday Mawis, 21; David Orobose, 18; Francis Owen, 27; Irobor Gershon, 26; Hussein Abdullai, 24; Olojon Promise, 20; Cyril Joe, 21 and Victor Berry, 23.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the arrests were done on February 10, 2019, by a night police patrol team in a room at Nsawam where they were operating.

According to him, the police retrieved ten laptops, some mobile phones, wifi routers, USB drives among others in the raid and said the suspects would go through screening while assisting in investigations.

“According to preliminary investigations, the suspects who were spotted had all gathered in one room operating on their laptops and were suspected to be engaging in cyber crime. So the night patrol team quickly strategised and went in to raid the place.”

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh added that the suspects had been detained to be screened as investigations continue.
