During his speech at the 68th Independence Day celebration on Thursday, March 6, 2025, he emphasised the importance of mindful actions for the sake of posterity.
According to him, these anniversaries should serve as a moment of reflection for Ghanaians, especially leaders, to ensure that future generations benefit from their actions.
President Mahama stressed that posterity will not accept our failures if Ghanaians are not careful enough.
“These independence anniversaries must therefore be a moment of reflection. Not on what we have done for ourselves, but on how well we have stewarded national assets for those we will hand them over to in the future. And it must be one of continued efforts to achieve far more than we can boast of now, posterity will not accept our failures or take them kindly,” he stated.
Ghana celebrated its 68th Independence Day Anniversary with a vibrant event at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The Independence Day marks Ghana’s liberation from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, under the leadership of the first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This year’s theme, “Reflect, Review, Reset,” highlighted the importance of reflecting on the nation’s history, evaluating its present condition, and strategising for a prosperous future.
Present at the event were President John Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former Presidents Akufo-Addo, John Agyekum Kufuor and former President of Tanzania, as well as other distinguished guests.
