Police invite Owusu Bempah over ‘false’ claims against Mahama

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has invited popular preacher Rev. Owusu Bempah to report at its headquarters Monday, March 18, 2019, over allegations against John Mahama, Daily Mail GH can confirm.

A former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams petitioned the CID to invite the preacher over allegations that some people are planning to assassinate President Akufo-Addo and his vice.

The petition which was submitted at the CID headquarters Wednesday, 13 March 2019, said: “The Rev. Owusu Bempah, a popular Ghanaian preacher alleged on the OMAN FM on the 28th of February 2019 on its morning show hosted by one Akua Asabea Croppa that certain persons have been contracted to kill the President and Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana. He further said had personal knowledge of the details of the plot and the persons behind it.”

Daily Mail GH can confirm that Mr. Adams was at the CID headquarters on Friday, 15 March 2019 to write a formal statement based on his petition.

Sources at the CID have confirmed to Daily Mail GH that the controversial preacher who is a close associate of president Akufo-Addo will be at the CID headquarters Monday at 1pm for questioning.

Meanwhile, former president Mahama has described Rev. Bempah’s accusations as false.

“In direct response to the said accusations, I am directed by Mr. Mahama to state that the claims of the said pastor are false. They remain imaginations of a warped mind and effusions of a politically-tainted founder of a church who would say and do anything to attract attention to himself.

“As a known surrogate of the Akufo-Addo government, the said Owusu Bempah’s statements are clearly calculated to distract the attention of the suffering masses of Ghana from the mounting issues of bad governance, corruption, insecurity, hardship and dishonesty.

“It is disgraceful that someone who claims to be a prophet of God would readily agree to be used to broadcast lies emanating from a vivid imagination instead of preaching the word of God. Never in the entire account of the bible has there been any anointed prophet of God who only praises a king and turns a blind eye to the evils committed in his reign.

“Mr. Mahama would also like to take this opportunity to assure the good people of Ghana that he remains the peaceful, focused, people-loving, and gentle politician that he has always been.

“He will not be distracted by the deliberately planned and concocted stories to keep afloat a scandal-mongering campaign against him by the ruling party,” his spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari said in a statement.
