Police in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region have intercepted an articulated truck transporting 500 bags of smuggled cocoa to Burkina Faso.

Online news portal, MyNewsGh reported that, the truck was impounded in Zuarungu upon a tip-off on July 31.

The vehicle whose content was labelled as waste cocoa beans was headed for the Kulungungu border to cross over to Burkina Faso.

But a thorough inspection by a joint police, customs, NIB, Defense Intelligence and Plant Protection and Regulatory section of the Ghana Immigration Service, MOFA, proved otherwise.

It is believed the cocoa beans were smuggled from Gonokrom in the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region.

The impounded truck is currently in Police custody as investigations continue.
