Police Intercept 150 Sacks of Suspected Indian Hemp in Eastern Region

The Eastern Regional Police Command has made a significant bust, intercepting two tipper trucks found to be transporting a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The operation, which took place at Apesua, near Nkurakan, highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illicit drug trade in the region.

The two trucks, identified by their registration numbers GN 993-14 and GG 3674-20, were stopped by vigilant officers at approximately 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Upon inspection, officers discovered the suspicious substances cleverly concealed beneath heaps of sand, an apparent attempt to evade detection during transit.

A statement issued by Superintendent of Police Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the interception and arrests. Two drivers, whose names are being withheld pending further investigations, have been taken into custody and are currently assisting the police with their inquiries. Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated street value of the seized consignment or the specific origin and intended destination of the illicit cargo.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to a thorough investigation into the matter. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds, including details on any potential accomplices or larger networks involved in the operation. This successful interception underscores the police’s dedication to curbing the flow of illegal narcotics and maintaining security within the region. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to support law enforcement efforts.
