Police begins probe as violence kills council chairman in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has condemned the recent violent outbreaks in local government administration, which compromised public safety and disrupted peace in some communities.
MyNigeria learnt that the chairman of the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, who was elected in the October 15, 2022 election, Aderemi Abbas, and one other were killed during the violence experienced on Monday.
The incident happened when members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed at the entrance of the local government secretariat in Ikire on Monday.
The Spokesperson for the police, CSP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, expressed sympathy to those affected by the criminal acts that resulted in loss of lives and property damage.
She said the police commissioner assured a thorough investigation, promising that the perpetrators will face justice.
“Citizens are urged to remain calm and patient as the police work diligently to restore peace. Trouble makers disrupting the state’s peace are hereby warned to cease immediately,” she concluded.
