Police arrests lovers for throwing their newborn baby alive in a toilet over poverty

A 30-year-old woman named Balaraba Shehu has been picked up by the Jigawa State Police Command.

She was caught because she was accused of putting her baby in a toilet while it was still alive.

In a statement released on Saturday, December 3, 2022, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who works for the command, confirmed the event.

He said that the incident happened on December 2 at about 11:50 p.m. in the village of Tsurma in the state’s Kiyawa Local Government Area.

Shiisu said that when the police got the report, they sent a group of officers to the scene of the crime.

“When the police heard about the crime, they put together a team and went to the scene. On arrival, detectives exhumed the new born baby from the toilet where it was buried by the suspected mother. “The suspect was taken into police custody after being caught,” he said.

He also said that the baby was rushed to General Hospital Dutse, where a doctor pronounced it dead.

The PPRO said that a 25-year-old man named Amadu Sale, also known as Dan Kwairo and from the village of Akar in Kiyawa LGA, was arrested after preliminary investigations.

He said that Amadu was to blame for the unwanted pregnancy and that he and Balaraba had planned to bury the baby after it was born.

CP Emmanuel Ekot Effiom, who is in charge of the Jigawa State Police Command, told the case to be sent to SCID Dutse for a quiet investigation.
