Police arrest suspected kingpin in car theft syndicate

The 37-year-old suspect, according to a statement released on April 11, and signed by Juliana Obeng (Supt), Public Affairs Unit, Accra Region, uses other fake identities: Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis and Wilson Kojo Bismark.

He was arrested at his hideout at Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumasi on April 5, 2025.

“Investigations revealed that on March 25, 2025, the accused, Nana Anderson contacted a car rental partner of the complainant and fraudulently rented a Hyundai Elantra with registration number GT-114-25, Nana Anderson using forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards bearing different names but with his photographs deceived the witness into handing over the vehicle at Community 25.

“The accused later failed to return the car and disabled the tracking system, raising suspicion,” the statement stated.

Meanwhile, a second suspect in connection with the crime, identified as Gideon Baah, is at large.

The police are on a manhunt to apprehend him, the statement added.
