Police arrest Reverend Obofour over wee

The Founder and Leader of Anointed Chapel International, Reverend Francis Antwi, popularly called Reverend Obofour, has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command.

He was said to have made a church member smoke dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (Wee) during a church service recently.

The incident was captured on video which has since gone viral on social media.

The arrest followed a directive from the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, after a video, which has gone viral, captured the ‘Man of God’ directing the church member to smoke the substance openly in church.

Rev. Obofour was arrested on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 and has since been granted police enquiry bail for further investigation.

Inspector Kwabena Danso of the Accra Regional Police Public Relations confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE yesterday.

He said on October 29, 2019, the Regional Command received a directive from the IGP to invite Rev. Obofour for questioning.

“Reverend Obofour was accordingly invited and he reported at the Regional Command on Wednesday October 30, 2019 with his counsel,” he said.

He said he was made to write his caution statement.

Rev. Obofour reportedly wrote that on October 26, 2019, he was invited by his fellow pastor by name Chris Asante, alias Aburuka-Aburuka, Head Pastor of Crown Glory Assembly Church, to deliver a sermon at Sowutuom in Accra.

Spiritual Realm

Rev. Obofour was quoted by the police as saying in his statement that “while in the spiritual realm, the Holy Spirit directed him to deliver a congregant who was in the habit of smoking Wee.”

He stated that he only got to know that he had delivered somebody after the church service and as such it was a spiritual direction.

Inspector Danso said the matter was still under investigation and those involved were yet to be invited for questioning.
