Police arrest four in the Chereponi attacks

Four person have been arrested in connection with the counter attacks in Chereponi between Konkombas and Chokosis.

According to the Northern Regional Police PRO, DSP Yussif Tanko, the suspects were arrested at two separate areas carrying single barrel guns.

They have been detained to assist in investigations, the police said.

The statement issued by the regional police command noted that no death has been recorded in the attacks.

One person has however sustained gunshot wounds and some communities belonging to both Konkombas and Chokosis have also been burnt.

A 22-year old Jababu Fuad who was shot on Friday evening by some unidentified persons at Nawieku is said to be in stable condition at the Chereponi Hospital.

The victim was shot twice: one in the right thigh and another in the right arm.

Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to ensure calm is restored.

There has been longstanding dispute between the two factions over a parcel of land which has caused the lives of at least 10 people within six months.
