Police arrest ‘BBL doctor’ over lady’s death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Dr. Idara Bassey in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement procedure at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1.

The incident came to light last week Tuesday when the deceased’s driver reported it to the Maroko Police Division around 11:40 a.m.

The nurse who administered the injection, reportedly on Dr. Bassey’s orders, was also arrested shortly after.

However, the police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that Dr. Bassey has been arrested and is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.

Prior to this development, Dr. Bassey fled after the procedure on August 26, 2024, which led to the woman’s death.

The deceased, identified as Abiola, left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, instructing her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure. According to the driver, Abiola lost consciousness and began gasping for breath following the injection.

When asked about potential charges against Dr. Bassey, Hundeyin stated that further details would be provided once the investigation is complete.
