Physically Challenged Delegate Shows Incredible Determination in NPP Primary

In a remarkable display of courage and determination, a physically challenged delegate at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary in Ghana refused to let his disability prevent him from casting his vote. The event, part of the party’s process to select its flagbearer for the upcoming national elections, took place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, and drew nationwide attention.

The delegate, identified as 37-year-old Frank Nti, serves as a Polling Station Secretary in the Assin South Constituency. Despite the challenges posed by his physical condition, Nti made it a point to participate fully in the democratic process. While most delegates walked comfortably to the polling centers, Nti took an extraordinary path, demonstrating resilience and commitment that left onlookers inspired.

Unable to walk to the voting center, Nti crawled over 30 meters on his hands and knees, navigating rough and uneven terrain under the hot sun. Witnesses described the scene as both humbling and inspiring, with many expressing admiration for his tenacity. His determination was not only about reaching the polling station but also about affirming the importance of every vote and the right to participate in democracy, regardless of physical limitations.

When he finally arrived at the Roman Catholic School in Assin Nyankomasi, officials quickly assisted him by providing a chair so he could mark his ballot comfortably and privately. The staff also helped him fold his ballot paper and cast his vote, ensuring he could participate with dignity. Nti’s actions left a lasting impression on both the Electoral Commission officials present and fellow delegates, showcasing the true spirit of civic engagement.

Speaking about his experience, Nti explained that he wanted to set an example for others, particularly persons with disabilities, to actively engage in political and civic life. “I want others to see that disability does not limit our ability to participate in shaping our nation,” he said. His story resonated widely, sparking conversations about accessibility, inclusion, and the critical need for equal opportunities in democratic processes.

Nti’s commitment also highlighted the importance of determination, courage, and the power of individual action in a collective political system. While he chose to keep his vote private, he emphasized loyalty to the NPP and pledged to support whoever became the party’s flagbearer.

This extraordinary act by Frank Nti reminds Ghanaians that civic duty transcends physical challenges and that every citizen has the power to make a difference. His story has inspired many across the country, proving that resilience and commitment to democracy are qualities that truly know no bounds.
