PHOTOS: Pregnant teenagers offered free health services

Women’s Health to Wealth (WHW), a Kumasi based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has offered free medical and maternal services to a number of pregnant teenage girls and mothers with children under one year at the Ante-Natal Clinic of Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The activists  in collaboration with the hospital staff also provided ante-natal, post-natal, child welfare and general screening services in addition to free treatment and counseling all geared toward the upkeep of the beneficiaries.

Executive Director of Women’s Health to Wealth, Abenaa Akuamoa-Boateng, noted education of girls and women towards national development cannot be underestimated.

She said as a health professional with enormous experience working with international organisations, there was the need for her to assist in the education of girls and women, realizing their importance to nation building.”

No individual or nation can totally be independent and for one to become successful there must be some help”, Madam Akuamoa-Boateng stressed.

She called on the affluent, philanthropists and other organizations to support the activities of her organization in order to maximize their efforts in rendering the much-needed help to the vulnerable especially young girls.

For her part, the head of the Ante-Natal Clinic at the Manhyia hospital, Ann Appiah Agyemang, bemoaned the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the country.

She explained the hospital has therefore dedicated special days to cater solely for teenage pregnancy related issues.
