Over 100 athletes turn up for Asamoah Gyan’s ‘All Regional Games Justify’ in Accra

More than one hundred athletes took part in the first “justify your inclusion” session for the upcoming All Regional Games held in Accra.

The event took place at the University of Ghana’s Athletics Oval on Friday, August 9, 2024.

The sporting events included football, athletics, volleyball, and basketball.

Operations Manager for the All Regional Games, Alfred Dromoree, explained how the trials will be held across the country.

“Through this, we are picking the best people to represent the Greater Accra region. This is the beginning, and we are going to do the trials for all other regions,” he stated.

According to him, the number of participants who register will determine the duration of the trials in each region.

Veteran coach JE Sarpong, who is part of the instructors, was impressed with the enormous talent that turned up for the first justify in Accra.

“The attendance wasn’t encouraging, but those who came did very well because Ghana is blessed with a lot of talents. They play with their own abilities even without coaching. I wanted more players to showcase their talent.”

“We have picked some players, but one thing about justify is that it is tricky. A player might not play well, but the next time you see him, he is playing very well in a big team,” the coach said.

Responding to how the players were selected, he said, “We didn’t want to demoralize the other players; that is why we didn’t name the selected players. They will receive messages on their phone.”

Some of the participants who spoke to GhanaWeb expressed their joy and were optimistic about getting selected for the All Regional Games.

The All Regional Games aim to scout promising talents from the fields of soccer, athletics, boxing, tennis, basketball, arm-wrestling, volleyball, and table tennis across the 16 regions of Ghana.

The next trials are expected to be held in the Eastern Region, with the date yet to be confirmed. Registration can be done on the official website.

The All Regional Games main event will be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in November 2024.
