One dead, three rescued from collapsed storey building in Kumasi

One person has been declared dead after a storey building collapsed, trapping him and three other individuals.

The incident, which occurred at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi in the early hours of Sunday, October 20, 2024, also involved the timely rescue of three individuals by the Ghana National Fire Service.

According to a statement from the GNFS, personnel from the Kejetia Fire crew were dispatched to the scene of the collapse after receiving reports of the incident.

The statement added that the four individuals were found trapped under the rubble at a construction site.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.

“In the early hours of October 20, 2024, a single-storey building collapsed at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi. The Kejetia Fire crew were swiftly dispatched at 0245 hours and arrived in good time to find four (4) workers trapped under the rubble.

“The team successfully rescued three (3) individuals, while sadly, one worker was found deceased. The body was retrieved and handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation,” the GNFS said.

The GNFS further advised Ghanaians to adhere to safety protocols when working at construction sites to avoid similar incidents in the future.

“This incident emphasizes the critical need for strict adherence to safety protocols at construction sites and highlights the importance of prompt emergency response by GNFS in saving 3 precious lives,” it added.
