Veteran coach Malik Jabir has expressed his frustration over not receiving his salary for three years while serving as the head coach of the National Under-23 team, the Black Meteors.

He revealed that he led the Black Meteors from 2013 to 2016, during which time the team competed in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, earning a monthly salary of $3,000.

Jabir noted that after the team returned from the tournament, he received three months’ salary from the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi. However, the remaining arrears have not been paid since then.

He mentioned that his efforts to get the arrears settled through GFA executives and heads of state, including the sports ministry, have been unsuccessful.

“The last job I did for the Black Stars was with the U23 team from 2013 to 2016. When we went to Congo for the tournament and returned, Nyantakyi paid me for three months. Aside from that, nobody has paid me, including the GFA chairmen who have taken office since.

“When I presented my bill to the head of state, they owed me three years and nine months’ salary. I earn $3,000 monthly, so just imagine. The head asked the deputy minister to take the bill to the Ministry of Sports to verify my claims. I can’t tell whether they did that or not,” he told Angel FM in Twi.

Malik Jabir, now 76 years old, was part of the Kotoko team that won the CAF Champions League in 1970 and served as the assistant coach in 1983.
