Okoe Boye lists hospital projects started and ‘completed’ by Akufo-Addo aside Agenda 111

The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has refuted assertions that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government has not started and completed a single hospital in the 8 years of its governance.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Dr. Okoe Boye said that aside from the 104 Agenda 111 projects, which are at various stages of completion, the government has started and completed 12 hospitals.

He went on to list the 12 hospitals the Akufo-Addo government has constructed in the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo, and Greater Accra regions, which are at various stages of completion, adding that most of them are over 90 percent completed.

The hospitals he listed include projects in Jumapo, Kwabeng, Drobonso, Manso Nkwanta, Sabronum, Mim, Kpong Katamanso, Twedie, Achiase, Suame, Nkwatia, and Adukrom.

These projects, the minister indicated, cost the state €71 million and are between 85 to 98 percent complete.

“And although you see 95%, 94% complete, they are actually completed. They are referring to accessory facilities, sometimes a road that must be graded and ordered. And I’m happy to say that all these facilities, Ghanaians must enter them before the end of this year,” he noted.

Dr. Okoe Boye also said that the Akufo-Addo government is the only government in the 4th Republic of Ghana that is constructing a children’s hospital for the country.

“When you go to Weija, Akawa, you see a huge building next to it. This is an ultra-modern 120-bed children’s hospital that is being built. And we are working with speed to make sure that before the end of this year, Princess Marie Louise relocates to the new Weija Municipal Children’s Hospital,” he said.

He added that the government has completed over 250 Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and 400 health centres across the country.
