‘No Ghanaian should fear’ – Defence Minister-designate pledges impartiality

The Minister of Defence-Designate, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reassured Ghanaians of his commitment to impartiality in his prospective role.

During his appearance before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 he addressed concerns arising from his previous role as Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated confidently.

He added, “In fact, I can be the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), and I will be impartial. I am committed to serving Ghana with fairness and integrity.”

Dr. Omane Boamah clarified that his past involvement with the NDC was strictly related to election activities.

“I took up the role of IT and Elections for the NDC, and after the elections, I told them my job was done. I am no longer involved in any political party activities,” he explained, aiming to dispel any doubts about his impartiality in his new position.

He emphasised that his focus would now be entirely on his responsibilities as Defence Minister.

“I am here to serve the people of Ghana, and I will do so without any political bias or agenda,” he affirmed, reiterating his pledge to carry out his duties with objectivity and dedication to the nation.

Dr. Omane Boamah is the immediate past Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress. He is also a former Minister of Communications and a former spokesperson to the President.

Additionally, he has served as Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, as well as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.

His nomination as Minister of Defence-Designate by President John Dramani Mahama has been widely welcomed.
