Nine-Year-Old Boy Killed by Toyota Voxy at Buduatta Junction

A nine-year-old schoolboy has died after being knocked down by a commercial Toyota Voxy at Buduatta Junction along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway in the Central Region.

The victim, identified as Miklin Bologah, was a pupil of Awutu Bereku Zion School. He reportedly met his untimely death while returning home from school after attempting to cross the busy highway.

According to reports, the Toyota Voxy, which was travelling towards Winneba, struck the boy as he attempted to cross the road.

Following the collision, the young victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has left residents and members of the surrounding community distressed, particularly because the victim was a schoolchild whose life was cut short while returning from school.

Reports indicate that the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene after knocking down the boy. However, commercial motorbike riders, popularly known as Okada riders, reportedly pursued the vehicle and managed to apprehend him.

The riders are said to have caught up with the driver at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market, where he was subsequently handed over to the police.

The driver was arrested and was assisting the police with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The tragedy has renewed concerns about pedestrian safety along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway, particularly at busy junctions where residents, schoolchildren and other pedestrians frequently cross the road.

Buduatta Junction is among the areas where motorists and pedestrians share busy road spaces, making caution and adherence to traffic regulations particularly important.

The latest incident also comes after another fatal accident involving 35-year-old teacher Samuel Boateng at Gomoa Potsin Junction along the same highway. Boateng reportedly died after being knocked down by a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter while returning to the road after purchasing fuel.

The deaths have heightened concerns among road users about the dangers associated with the highway and the need for improved road safety measures.

Residents and other road users are expected to continue calling for greater caution from drivers, improved pedestrian protection and measures to reduce accidents along the route.

For the family of Miklin Bologah, however, the incident represents a devastating loss, as a nine-year-old child who had gone to school will not return home.
