GCB murder: Police arrest one suspect

The police command in the Central Region has picked up one suspect in relation to the murder of Benjamin Ayo Acquah, a private security man who worked at one of the branches of GCB Bank at Abura Dunkwa.

The victim was allegedly killed by some Malians (Zamramas) living in the area, resulting in some reprisal attacks by Ghanaian residents who burned five houses belonging to their adversaries.

“The case is still under investigation. We have gathered pieces of information as to the whereabouts of the suspects and the police are doing everything to have them arrested. We have picked one person for interrogation for now,” the Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, ASP Irene Oppong said on Monday, 24 September 2018.

Meanwhile, daughter of the deceased, Adwoa, explained to Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom hosted by Katakyie Obeng Mensah that her father, before his demise, indicated that the Zamramas had threatened to kill him.

Speaking on the same show about the alleged murder, the Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Elvis Moris Donkor, said the District Security Council (DISEC) will have an emergency meeting over the issue.

The MP condemned the crime and indicated that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

“Just recently, two people were killed in the same area and now we have this incident happening. It is unfortunate and I call on the security to act swiftly to deal with the perpetrators,” he said.
