Organ harvest plot victim has been rescued and in safety

A Nigerian senator, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu were on Thursday, June 23, 2022, remanded into custody in London for plotting to harvest the organs of a 15-year-old boy after having him brought to the United Kingdom.

Senator Ike who is 60 and also the senator for the southern state of Enugu on the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and his wife Beatrice according to the police, were charged with machination to arrange the travel of a 15-year-old boy with the agenda of harvesting his organs.

In a report by the BBC, the child at the centre of the arrest was taken to safety when the police were alerted of the alleged plot following reports made of possible offences under the modern slavery legislation.

The couple was tried at the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London where they were remanded in custody to reappear on July 7 as the prosecution said the AG’s consent needed to be sought to proceed with the case due to jurisdictional issues, the BBC added.

However, neither Ekweremadu nor his wife could be reached for comments.
