Nigerian jailed 15 years

A 29-year-old Nigerian Solomon Okpewho who stabbed a lady three times on the arm and robbed her of hand bag was on Friday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

The hand bag contained the sum of GH¢200.00, Infinix Hot five mobile phone, and a National Health Insurance Scheme Card.

Okpewho, charged with robbery and causing harm pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor said the complainant Monica Kreberi is a waitress residing at Tse Addo at La in Accra, while the convict an unemployed, has no fixed place of abode.

Chief Inspector Ahiabor said on March 22, this year, the complainant alighted at EXOPA bus stop at Tse Addo and was on her way home.

He said on reaching a spot behind a storey building around the said Bus stop, Okpewho appeared from nowhere and pounced on the complainant with force and threatened her to hand over her handbag.

The prosecution said the complainant refused and this resulted in a struggle between the two and in the process, Okpewho pulled out a knife and stabbed the complainant three times on her left arm where the bag was hanging.

The Prosecution said Okpewho overpowered the complainant and succeeded in taking the said bag, containing the items afore-mentioned and took to his heels.

Mr Ahiabor said the complainant raised an alarm and the convict was given a hot chase by a mob and in the process Okpewho went to hide behind a building.

Prosecution said Okpewho was finally arrested and handed him over to the Police.

He said during Police investigations, the complainant items were retrieved from the convict except, the GH¢200.00 cash.

The Prosecution said Okpewho confessed to the crime in the course of investigation.

The Prosecution said the complainant was given a Police medical report form to seek treatment
